Research Interests:

The subject of my long-term professional interest is the sociology of border regions, ethnic conflicts, the issue of the Euro-region and cross-border cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany. I also pursue the relationship of internal and external policies of states, especially the role of Germany within the context of Central Europe and the social contexts of historical consciousness within the environment of Czech society. Observations published in my works on the historical dimension of the Czech-German relationship have contributed to the cognition of the present, the extent of the ethnic mobilization potential of the Czech society in relation to the neighbouring Germany and to the cognition of the processes of forming the cooperation potential in the border regions between the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany as a consequence of Europeanization in bilateral relationships.

In cooperation with foreign universities (University of Cambridge-Wolfson College, University of Birmingham, Ludwigs- Maximilians-Universität München), I engaged in research on the role of Germany within the context of Central Europe.
